Defender Adventure Edition

Defender Adventure Edition

This Land Rover Defender 90 Adventure is a smart example of one of the end-of-production special editions, which has been driven and enjoyed as intended, with just one owner from new. Under the bonnet is the 2.2-litre, 120bhp turbo-diesel engine, with permanent four-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 84,424 miles.

As motoring icons go, there are few that deserve the accolade as much as the Land Rover Defender. To mark the end of an incredible production run, Land Rover offered its workhorse in three special edition 'Celebration' models: Autobiography, Heritage and Adventure. The latter included three paint choices

Finished in Phoenix Orange, just one of only three colors offered on the Adventure model, it also has a contrasting Santorini Black roof, bonnet, tailgate, and front grille, as well as front and side underbody protection, and gloss black diamond-turned alloys – along with a raft of other upgrades. Some interior luxury is provided in the Ebony Premium leather seats, air-conditioning and heated seats. First registered on 4 February 2016, this is a very late build model, and has just one private owner from new.

Externally the car bears its mileage well, although there are small elements of wear and usage evident as one would expect. Areas of surface patina are present on more exposed metal work such as the spare wheel bolts, door hinges and rear door handle. The wheels present in good order retaining their gloss black and diamond-turned finish with no visible kerbing damage. All of the other body features are also in good condition, including the black roof rack and rear ladder, as well as the front snorkel.

The interior arguably belies the indicated mileage, with the leather seats in very good order, showing slight bunching on the bases but no heavy wear or discolouration. The rest of the interior trim shows no significant wear and tear, though the rear seats have some indentations from being stored folded flat. All of the equipment fitted is as standard, including the Alpine stereo head unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The last routine maintenance was carried out by the vendor in January 2021 at approximately 83,000 miles, which comprised an engine oil change, and fitment of new rear discs and pads – using genuine Land Rover parts. Prior to this, it was serviced by main dealers in March 2018 at 41,361 miles, in May 2017 at 24,471 miles, and in August 2016 at 12,486 miles.

The last MOT test was carried out on 5 February 2021 at 84,424 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The road wheels are all fitted with General Grabber AT3 tyres, which are reported to be in good order. The spare wheel has an as-new Goodyear Wrangler tyre.

This Land Rover Defender 90 Adventure is a cherished example of one of the very last of the original and iconic British 4x4s. In Adventure trim it makes for a great rugged road trip vehicle; sure-footed in long-distance motorway driving while being hugely capable across rough tracks and other off-road terrain. Rather than being cocooned and preserved with delivery mileage, this collectible special edition has been driven as intended, and should prove to be a robust and enjoyable all-rounder for its next owner.
